Classification: A-12
FLSA Status: Non-exempt- Part Time

SUMMARY

The Front Desk Attendant is responsible for the daily operation of the front desk, including cash handling, membership sales, and a good working knowledge of current and upcoming events. The attendant will monitor access to the Recreation Center, welcome guests, answer phones and ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies while delivering outstanding customer service.

**This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Critical Safety Skills and Abilities

Conducts the following duties, where a momentary lapse of attention can have a disastrous consequence while supervising vulnerable populations:

  1. Responsible for managing high-stress situations
  2. Responsible for direct communication with customers, staff, and supervisors
  3. Responsible for making split-second decisions to implement the emergency action plan related to emergencies in or about the Recreation Center involving children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Oversee facility and enforce rules and regulations regarding proper use.
  • Provide citizens with knowledgeable information on recreation programs, activities, trips, membership fees, and rentals.
  • Arrange chairs, tables, sporting equipment, or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities such as banquets, parties, group meetings, or events.
  • Demonstrate proper methods for storing and cleaning equipment to safeguard facilities and equipment.
  • Register customers for class memberships, evaluate class enrollments, notify patrons of activity schedules and registration requirements, and confirm/cancel classes as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary facility. General maintenance is a part of your job. Duties that should be done daily include cleaning the Front Desk area, counters, coffee area, and floors; taking out trash and recycling; cleaning weight room equipment and floors; cleaning restrooms; washing towels; mopping floors; and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and controlled environment; identify and eliminate or minimize hazardous conditions.
  • Monitor access to the Recreation Center by ensuring memberships are current and that others pay for day use and sign in before being granted admission to the facility.
  • Issue equipment to participants and keep track of the inventory. Upon returning equipment, the Front Desk Attendant will check it to ensure that it has not been damaged.
  • Sell designated products to patrons while maintaining a balanced cash register.
  • Keep non-public areas secure at all times.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies. When necessary, provide proper emergency care (first aid/CPR/AED).
  • Expected to report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs or alcohol, and REPORTS to work free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Special License, Certifications, and Designations

  • Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain during staff training that is held biannually

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
