Division Overview Montana’s Division of Criminal Investigation is a diverse public safety team providing a full range of criminal investigative services to state, local, and tribal law enforcement. From homicide investigations to cybercrime, human trafficking, missing persons, and training of public safety officers, DCI serves as a hub in providing critical law‑law enforcement support. The division manages the sexual and violent offender registry, criminal justice information networks, storage of criminal records, arson investigations, and intelligence analysis for local agencies. Job Overview This position is a Compliance Investigator for the Office of Consumer Protection. The investigator conducts professional investigative, compliance, and administrative work related to consumer protection laws. Responsibilities include filing, analyzing, and investigating inquiries and complaints about fraudulent, deceptive, or unfair acts or practices; auditing and investigating business establishments and agencies for compliance with state and federal laws; and collaborating closely with the Office’s legal team. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting, Business, or a related field. Three years of directly related experience. Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as a criminal and/or civil investigator. Prior law enforcement experience. Knowledge of investigative principles, rules of evidence, and consumer protection laws. Skill in gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and communicating effectively with all stakeholders. Ability to operate personal computers and utilize Microsoft products and the Office’s Case Management System. Benefits Generous paid vacation, sick and holidays.
