The Quarry Manage r is responsible for overseeing daily quarry and yard operations, including material handling, railcar loading/unloading, and inventory management. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of raw and finished materials in and out of the facility. The Quarry Manager leads operational teams, coordinates with transportation partners, and drives continuous improvement across yard logistics, production support, and site performance.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee daily quarry and yard operations, including material flow, stockpiling, and loadout.
  • Manage safe, accurate loading and unloading of railcars and trucks.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound movement of aggregates, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Supervise yard personnel and equipment operators to ensure productivity and safety compliance.
  • Plan and prioritize workloads to align with production, customer demand, and shipping schedules.
  • Act as the primary liaison with rail carriers, trucking partners, and internal teams.
  • Monitor inventory, reconcile material movements, and maintain accurate load records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment, stockpiles, and loading areas to maintain operational readiness.
  • Troubleshoot delays, equipment issues, and material discrepancies.
  • Optimize yard layout, material flow, and loadout processes to improve efficiency.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics (throughput, load times, utilization) to drive improvements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain shipment, railcar, and compliance documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of quarry operations, material handling, and aggregate production environments.
  • Experience managing railcar loading/unloading operations and coordinating with Class I and short line railroads.
  • Familiarity with truck dispatching, loadout systems, and yard traffic flow management.
  • Proven leadership experience supervising operators, labor crews, or yard personnel.
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment operations (loaders, excavators, conveyors, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations (e.g., MSHA, OSHA) relevant to quarry operations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to coordinate across multiple teams and priorities.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and drive process improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems, inventory tracking tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on efficiency, safety, and cost control.

Education | Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in quarry operations, yard management, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with rail logistics and bulk material handling strongly preferred.
