Every signal we send carries hope, truth, and transformation into homes, cars, and communities. Behind that mission is a team of engineers who see their work as more than technical - it's eternal. Join our team as a Field Engineer III, where you'll be at the forefront of ensuring K-LOVE programming is broadcast seamlessly and at the highest quality. From diverse locations to dynamic work environments, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting broadcast facilities with top-notch technical and engineering expertise. Ready to make an impact in the world of broadcast? This is the role for you! This role supports sites in and surrounding Los Angeles. Candidates must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Los Angeles area. What will you do? Strategic System Optimization & Engineering Leadership: Partner across the engineering team to ensure K-LOVE's programming is broadcast successfully and to the highest quality through expert installation, maintenance, operation, updates, and intricate repairs. Lead the operation, testing, and maintenance of advanced broadcast equipment such as audio processors, transmission systems, EAS equipment, receivers, monitors, electrical systems, and optimizing signal and sound based on Ministry guidelines. Drive a culture of excellence by identifying opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency, with a focus on IP-based, modern microwave, and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite solutions. Troubleshooting & Mentorship: Serve as a primary expert in diagnosing and resolving complex technical faults on equipment and systems down to the component level, utilizing advanced analytical methods. Partner and communicate with engineers (including contract engineers) to accomplish critical objectives. Serve as a dedicated mentor and escalation point for more junior Broadcast Engineers, fostering their technical knowledge and professional development. Administrative & Documentation: Accurately complete and submit all required administrative documentation, including but not limited to timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgeting documents, and other relevant records by established deadlines. Utilize and maintain designated asset management, work order, and ticketing system software to log activities, track inventory, and update status efficiently. Respond promptly and professionally to emails, texts, and phone calls, ensuring clear and timely communication regarding operational status, project updates, and other work-related matters. Maintain organized digital and physical records as required for compliance and operational continuity. Advanced Compliance & Safety Stewardship: Maintain an expert-level understanding of FCC rules and regulations, ensuring all equipment and operations are compliant and uphold safety standards. Actively champion K-LOVE's Injury Prevention and Safety program, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards. Strict adherence to lock out‑tag out procedures. Serve as a Chief Operator/Engineer for assigned broadcast station(s), meticulously fulfilling all regulatory responsibilities. Critical Site Management & Extensive Field Presence: Conduct mandatory, comprehensive on‑site visits to each assigned transmitter site at least once per quarter. Provide immediate and expert response for unplanned outages, emergency repairs, and critical events requiring on‑site presence. Perform essential maintenance and troubleshooting on non-broadcast equipment (e.g., generators, HVAC, minor electrical/plumbing) ensuring complete site functionality. Undertake necessary trips to remote sites for complex installations or critical repairs, or K-LOVE Campus for specialized training or leadership on projects. Perform other duties as assigned. What are we looking for? Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical studies in electronics, broadcast communications, or a related field; OR a minimum of five years of directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education. SBE Certification highly desirable. Minimum of 6+ years of demonstrated expert‑level experience in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex broadcast electronic equipment, or comparable relevant experience. Thorough understanding of broadcast air‑chain components, including complex system interactions and IP‑based signal distribution. Intermediate networking skills (TCP/IP, routing, switching) and ability to diagnose common network issues. Advanced understanding of modern microwave and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technologies and their integration. Deep understanding of radio frequency (RF) emissions, interference mitigation, and regulatory compliance, serving as an escalation point for complex RF challenges. Expertise in soldering and desoldering electronic components, including precision work. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable broadcast‑related FCC rules and regulations. Ability to perform complex calculations for common broadcast‑related formulae. Advanced proficiency with standard broadcast test equipment (VOMs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers). Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other common software. Proven ability to systematically and logically address multiple, highly complex technical problems, often requiring innovative solutions. Ability to apply sophisticated common‑sense understanding to carry out complex instructions and think strategically from abstract problems to practical solutions. Exemplary communication skills characterized by grace, respect, and humility; strong ability to listen, provide constructive feedback, and influence positively. Demonstrates lifelong learning, actively pursuing and taking personal responsibility for advanced professional development. Maintains a deep and current understanding of technical processes/equipment, strategically leveraging new technologies to enhance performance and productivity. Strives for error elimination, prioritizes high‑quality work, and proactively seeks opportunities to improve products and services. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop sincere business/Ministry relationships. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
