Job Summary

The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) will provide clinical leadership, operational oversight and strategic guidance to the medical staff while fostering strong collaboration with physicians, administrators, and key stakeholders. The role demands strategic communication, regulatory compliance, and commitment to the organizations' core values. The ideal candidate is a board-certified physician with proven leadership experience and a strong record of improving quality, performance and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the Associate Chief Medical Officer position in Medical Affairs would include but not be limited to:
  • Organize, manage and provide oversight for medical affairs activities to include peer review, privileging, and credentialing
  • Assist Medical Staff leadership in the oversight of the conduct of Medical Staff members privileged in the organization in accordance with medical staff bylaws, policies, rules and regulations
  • Support the medical staff leadership in the performance of their duties and responsibilities
  • Participate in strategic planning for clinical services provided within the organization
  • Partner with Quality and Safety team leadership as a physician champion to achieve system goals, in particular state, federal, and payor quality initiatives
  • Collaborate with Utilization Review, physician advisors, and case management to ensure medical necessity, appropriate level-of-care decisions, and efficient use of resources
  • Lead a culture of proactive patient progression, hospital throughput and patient flow to remove barriers to timely care
  • Champion physician accountability for documentation and clinical judgement that supports appropriate utilization and accurate representation of patient status
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (DNV, CMS, NCQA and internal care guidelines)
  • Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel and Risk Manager in areas related to governing documents, credentials and clinical risk issues and assure integration of information with quality programs
  • Assist Vice President for Medical Affairs with special projects and act as Vice President's designee as requested
  • Address grievances arising from physician activities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by executive management
  • Serve on Medical Staff and Department Committees as assigned

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education
• Medical Degree (Required) Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), with completion of an ACGME-approved residency required. Other: Medical Staff appointment - Active StaffCompetencies and Skills: • At least five years of experience with significant combination of clinical, education and administrative experience in a hospital environment with proven leadership and management skills• Strong knowledge of hospital operations, quality improvement, regulatory requirements and physician performance management• Knowledge of managed care, utilization review, risk adjustment, care coordination, and payor operations preferred• Experience with data analysis to inform clinical performance and cost efficiency• Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and work effectively across departments in a complex healthcare environment to expedite change management• Proficiency with HER systems and Microsoft Office
